چکیده

Blackouts in recent years have demonstrated that a reliable and secure power system is a key component of an efficient economy. Therefore control devices such as flexible AC transmission system devices (FACTS) are placed in the system and utilised to improve the security of the system. A method to determine appropriate settings for these devices is optimal power flow control. As the area of influence of a FACTS device is usually limited, it is sufficient to include only a reduced area in the optimisation problem. Here, such an optimal power flow problem is formulated where the considered area is defined using sensitivity analysis. To include N2 1 security as an objective, a current injection method is applied, which facilitates the determination of the system state in the case of a line outage, without having to carry out a full-load flow simulation.

Coordinated Power Flow Control to Enhance Steady-State Security in Power Systems

Due to the rapid technological progress, the consumption of electric energy increases continuously. But the transmission systems are not extended to the same extent because building of new lines is difficult for environmental as well as political reasons. Hence, the systems are driven closer to their limits resulting in congestions and critical situations endangering the system security. Power ...

Distributed Generation Effects on Unbalanced Distribution Network Losses Considering Cost and Security Indices

Due to the increasing interest on renewable sources in recent years, the studies on integration of distributed generation to the power grid have rapidly increased. In order to minimize line losses of power systems, it is crucially important to define the size and location of local generation to be placed. Minimizing the losses in the system would bring two types of saving, in real life, one is ...

UPFC Siting and Sizing in Power Network Using Two Different Evolutionary Algorithm

In emerging electric power systems, increased transactions often lead to the situations where the system no longer remains in secure operating region. The flexible Ac transmission system (FACTS) controllers can play an important role in the power system security enhancement. However, due to high capital investment, it is necessary to locate these controllers optimally in the power system. FACTS...

Optimal Power Flow in the Smart Grid Using Direct Load Control Program

This paper proposes an Optimal Power Flow (OPF) algorithm by Direct Load Control (DLC) programs to optimize the operational cost of smart grids considering various scenarios based on different constraints. The cost function includes active power production cost of available power sources and a novel flexible load curtailment cost associated with DLC programs. The load curtailment cost is based ...
